CZ 75/85 Compact .40S&W |

I just got a new CZ 85 Compact .40S&W. I was originally looking for the 75, but couldn't find one. I found the 85 which I am told was an earlier version of the 75. As far as I can tell, there is no difference between the two. Same m3 rail, safety, grips, 3 dot sight, etc. I'm extremely pleased with it. I was warned about early feed problems before the ramp gets broken in, but I've not had any problems. This is the most solid pistol I've ever held. No questions yet, just posting this for anyone doing research before buying. I will admit that the slide and mag springs are a little stiff, but it's better than the alternative. Oh yeah, I also outshot my dad's sig p229 .40 (but I'm also a better shot).

I, too, have the 85 version. Mine the same price as the 75 variation. Since it cost the same as the 75, might as well have something less common right?

I'm a little confused why CZ has switched with the 75 vs. 85 numbering for the ambi guns... unless they are reserving the 85 for the fully ambi guns (safety AND slide stop), in which case the 85 Compact .40 was just a screw-up.
I like my screw-up gun just fine though |

Yeah, I don't see the point of the ambi safety without the ambi slide release. Oh well (I'm right handed anyway). Went to the range yesterday and shot some CCI Blazer Brass I got at Wal-Mart for like $6/50. Flawless as ever.

An ambi safety is something that is really needed for a left-hander, if you're carrying cocked and locked.
You can release the slide without using the slide release -- just sling shot the slide. (Some instructors recommend that in any event.) |

Quote: That was the same thought I had, but when the CZ 85 Compact came out. To me, it was more like the CZ 75B in .40 with the ambi safety and the left-side slide release. Oh, well. By whatever name, I'll be keeping Compact .40. -- Mike NRA Endowment Life Member and
