I read once in a while that a pistol has a throated barrel. What does that mean exactly? I think I have an idea but what does it look like and is it worth
trying to do to mine someday?

A "throated barrel" is a technique that was first developed for 1911 pistols in their conventional GI form. Its a way of make a narrow feed rame a
bit wider. (Its not really visible unless you can compare to barrels, one throated and one not.) You'll see the top of the feed ramp opened up a bit, in
1911s.
Unless you've having feed problems, it's not something that is routinely needed -- especially for guns with a newer design. |
